What is the purpose of a pre-disciplinary meeting?

To determine guilt beyond a reasonable doubt

To provide an accused employee an opportunity to present his side of the story before the employer makes a decision on discipline, and to meet with his commander prior to discipline

The main idea here is to ensure fairness in the discipline process by giving the employee a chance to speak up before any action is taken. A pre-disciplinary meeting is the time for the accused employee to present his side of the story, provide context, and offer any supporting information, witnesses, or documents. It also gives the commander a chance to ask questions and understand factors that might affect the disciplinary decision. This step helps the employer gather complete facts and consider mitigating circumstances before deciding on discipline, rather than making a rushed or one-sided determination.

It isn’t about proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, expediting action without input, or deciding punishment at the meeting. The purpose is to inform and inform itself the decision-making process with the employee’s perspective before final disciplinary action.

To expedite the discipline process without input from the employee

To decide punishment at the meeting
